As my soft tissue starts to dissolve, I feel ligaments starting to disconnect. “I hate you.”They say to one another. “I never want to see you again!”

Like the spinal cord, I am a long, fragile structure. Emotional nerves like electrical currents carry incoming and outgoing messages between my brain and the rest of my body, telling me what to say, what to do, how to feel. The thing about the spinal cord is that it does not need to receive signals from the brain in order to do its job. In certain circumstances, it works autonomously and is able to convey salient messages directly throughout the nervous system. AI’s wet dream. Just like letting you take a nap in the passenger seat.

In my dreams, I am formless, devoid of any bone or muscle. My body is a soft, warm vessel that oozes hot, molten amber. It envelops me like the liquid gold that swathes the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer. Her face is blurry and has a gray pallor that is accentuated by her upswept black hair, but is slightly enlivened by her pink cheeks. It was believed that once a person died, he or she would need to take gold into the afterlife with them— rebirth is a common theme in mythology; elemental of sacrifice. Ergo, a gold coin would need to be placed in or on the mouth of the dead in order to insure a successful trip into the underworld. Sometimes I imagine this cycle in reverse. Midwives would lift the gold coins from your eyes as amends, probably.

Arguably non-sentient, are jellyfish the blueprint to machine consciousness? Is AI just larping as jellyfish? Why do we want to be spineless so bad, its kind of f*cked. I look around and I am hyperaware of my visual inter-determinacy. Deepfakes all around me, I breathe it all in, it’s like air its nothing to me. Reality deprivation is causing my system's internal components to degenerate, but I don’t really care, because degeneration is just rebirth in disguise. Everything is whatever, baby.
